One Hundred Movies Every Guy Should See In His Lifetime (Part Four)

Start The New Year Out With A Resolution To Watch These Movies

There are great movies, and there are great guy movies. Every guy movie is great, but not every great movie is a guy movie. The Titanic, Thelma And Louise, Ghost... All great movies, but not guy movies by any stretch of the imagination.

Here is my list of one hundred movies every guy will want to see before he dies.

The list is presented in four installments of twenty-five movies each. In the end, I’ll reveal my number one guy movie of all time. I look forward to hearing from you about where I am right and wrong and some of your favorite guy movies.

In alphabetical order, here are numbers seventy-six through one hundred.

76. Rocky II (1979) - The sequel is as good as the original. In the rematch, Rocky Balboa wins the heavyweight championship of the world by knocking out Apollo Creed. The Rocky franchise goes downhill after this, as Rocky goes from a punch-drunk journeyman to an Ivy League-educated gentleman fighter.

77. The Sand Pebbles (1966) - Steve McQueen stars in this action-packed story of a U.S. Navy gunboat on patrol in China during the 1920s. Nominated for eight academy awards, this is a great movie. If you haven't seen it, watch it.

78. The Sandlot (1993) - The definitive childhood friends movie and one of the greatest baseball films ever made. "You're killing me, Smalls."

79. Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) - John Wayne stars as tough as nails Sgt. John Stryker. The Duke leads his Marines across the Pacific, stacking bodies along the way. This is one of the better World War Two movies made in the immediate years after the war. Ira Hayes makes a cameo appearance. If you don't know who that is, look him up.

80. Saving Private Ryan (1998) - Quite possibly the greatest war movie ever made. The Normandy Invasion scene has been described by men who actually fought there as the most realistic depiction ever recreated on film. There aren't many World War Two vets left. If you happen to know one, show him reverence and respect by thanking him for saving the world.

81. Scarface (1983) - Not gonna lie; I have never watched this movie in its entirety. Every guy I know likes it, though. It's on my bucket list!

82. The Searchers (1956) - Widely considered John Wayne's finest performance and perhaps the greatest Western ever made.

83. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Based on Stephen King's novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, it was a box office flop that only became popular through video rentals and television broadcasts. Stars Timothy Robins and Morgan Freeman.

84. The Shining (1980) - "Here's Johnny!"

85. Sixteen Candles (1984) - Go ahead and laugh. When I was in the Marines, they showed us this movie at base camp in the middle of the woods at Fort Bragg. That makes it a guy movie.

86. Smokey and The Bandit (1977) - Burt Reynolds and Jerry Reed are smuggling Coors into Atlanta. Sally Field comes along for the ride, and Jackie Gleason is hilarious as Sheriff in pursuit.

87. Stand By Me (1986) - One of my all-time favorite movies. Four friends go on the adventure of their lives. Based on Stephen King's novella, The Body. Read it if you haven't already.

88. Star Wars - The Trilogy (1977, 1980, 1983) - I know this is three movies, but if you watch one, you have to watch all three. Fun fact, I was twelve years old in 1977 but didn't see any of these movies until I was in my early thirties.

89. Superbad (2007) - One of the funniest movies ever made. "McLovin."

90. Taxi Driver (1976) - Martin Scorsese's masterpiece starring Robert DeNiro as Travis Bickle, a Vietnam vet driving a taxi in New York while his mental state deteriorates. The film also stars Harvey Keitel, Cybil Shepherd, and twelve-year-old Jodie Foster in a controversial role.

91. The Ten Commandments (1956) - The biblical story of the life of Moses. Charlton Heston stars as Moses, with Yul Brynner as Ramses. An epic in every sense of the word.

92. The Terminator (1984) - Arnold stars as a torqued-off cyborg. It took me a while to warm up to the movie, but here it is on the list.

93. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) - Gregory Peck is impeccable as Atticus Finch. One of the great movies of all time and very faithful to the book. My cat is named "Boo Radley."

94. Tombstone (1993) - Quite possibly my favorite movie ever. Kurt Russel as Wyatt Earp, Sam Elliott as Virgil Earp, and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday on one side, with Powers Booth as Curly Bill, Michael Biehn as Johnny Ringo, and Stephen Lang as Ike Clanton on the other. Some guy named Billy Bob Thornton appears as Johnny Tyler. A classic.

95. Top Gun (1986) - Tom Cruise in a classic!

96. Top Gun: Maverick (2022) - Tom Cruise on another classic. One of the few good guy movies made in the past ten or fifteen years.

97. True Grit (1969) - John Wayne as U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn. The Duke won his only Oscar in this one. Also starring Glen Campbell and Kim Darby.

98. Unforgiven (1992) - Produced and directed by Clint Eastwood. Starring Clint Eastwood. A great western made when Hollywood wasn't making westerns anymore.

99. The Wild One (1953) - The original outlaw biker film. Starring Marlon Brando and featuring Lee Marvin.

100. The Wolf Man (1941) - This one scared me to death when I was a kid. Starring Lon Chaney Jr.

Tie. The Wind and the Lion (1975) - Historical fiction about a North African sheik who kidnaps an American woman. Teddy Roosevelt sends in the Marines!

Tie. Zulu (1964) - The Redcoats run up against the Zulus. Incredible battle scenes in this one!

That's it, folks. How did I do? Leave your comments!
